Dylan Bane, Messari | DCN at ETH Denver DePIN Day

In our final interview from Denver, we go back to the basics and discuss how to find real world utility in crypto with Dylan Bane, a researcher from Messari.

Young and tenacious, it’s easy to see why Dylan Bane has found his way to the Messari team. Bane thinks DePIN can help disrupt a variety of legacy industries from wireless to energy and finally make crypto useful.

Near the end, Dylan mentions checking out the “State of DePIN,” a Messari report updated in January 2025 by Bane himself and another analyst Salvador Gala. The full report from 2024 is availabe via PDF, and it also features research from Mahesh Ramakrishnan, a Co-Founder at the VC firm EV3, who we also interviewed in this series. It’s over 104 pages, and a main takeway from skimming through is that it predicts DePIN as a major breakthrough for 2025 — which it has been.

After all these DePIN videos - tell us what you think in the comments! Does DePIN have such massive potential? Should we all be getting some hardware to build a better world? Or not?
